A typical desktop application design

Despite the advances in online technology and the improved features of web-browser based applications, for internal business processing, there is still little that can better a bespoke multi-user desktop application.

Professionally built Windows desktop applications outperform their web based equivalents for speed and functionality enabling (for example) auto generation of Office documents (Word, Excel etc) that simply cannot be done reliably using web based techniques. In addition networked desktop applications usually require less complex server software as they do not need an internal webserver to run them.

By linking the internal database securely with an external webserver it is still possible to extend required functionality (order entry, tracking, online enquiries etc) out to the world wide web.
